Excursion tips

Votive Chapel commemorating Ludwig II.

It was built in the park of Castle Berg to commemorate the Fairy-Tale King Ludwig II. If you would like to visit, stop at Leoni and walk through the park to the chapel. After a 20-minute walk along the lake, you can continue on to Berg with the next boat.

Romantic Rose Island

This is where King Maximilian II had his private summer refuge and King Ludwig II met with Austria's Empress Sisi. Here, you can stroll in the park today and admire the Rose Garden and visit the island’s little castle. The boat takes you to Possenhofen. From there, a picturesque path leads around 30 to 45 minutes along the lake. With a small electric boat, you then sail over to Rose Island. You then head back via Possenhofen to Starnberg.

Possenhofen Castle Park

From Starnberg, you head via Seeshaupt to Tutzing. A 1.5-hour hiking trail over Garatshausen and through the Feldafinger Park leads to Possenhofen. In the Castle Park there is a large recreation area with a beautiful adventure playground. The castle is unfortunately closed to visitors. From the steam pier in Possenhofen, you head back to Starnberg by boat.

By boat to the Buchheim Museum and to Bernried

In the Museum of Imagination, the painter and the author of the novel "The Boat", Lothar-Günther Heim combines nature and art pleasure in an ideal way.

From the steamer pier in Bernried, the museum is easily reached on a short and beautiful walk (about 10-15 mins.).

We recommend the cheap Museums Boat Combi-Ticket for your journey. This includes the use of any scheduled sailing plus admission to the museum (only for adults, valid on the day of the ticket, tickets are available onboard).
