Exploring lake Starnberger See
Starnberg - the gate to the lake Starnberger See
From the lakeside promenade, you can enjoy sweeping views of the mighty Alpine range to the south. The Zugspitze is close enough to touch. Our tip: The free audio walk through the Starnberg/Ammersee region takes you on an exciting journey through the life of Bavaria's “fairy-tale king,” Ludwig II.
Votive Chapel
The chapel dedicated to the fairy-tale king Ludwig II stands in the park of Berg Castle. Take a break from your tour in Berg and walk to the chapel in about 20 minutes. Continue at a leisurely pace through the park to Leoni, where you can continue your journey on the next boat. A short excursion – and a particularly atmospheric moment on Lake Starnberg.
Possenhofen Castle Park
From Starnberg, take the boat to Tutzing. A hiking trail via Garatshausen through Feldafinger Park leads to Possenhofen in about 1.5 hours. The Castle Park features a large recreation area with a beautiful playground. Unfortunately, the castle itself is not open to visitors. From the steamboat pier in Possenhofen, take the boat back to Starnberg.
Romantic Rose Island
Where King Ludwig II met Austria's Empress Sisi, you can now stroll through the park, admire the rose garden, and visit the island castle. Take the boat to Possenhofen. From there, walk along the lake for about 45 minutes and take a small boat to Roseninsel (Rose Island).
Tutzing
Tutzing is the ideal starting point for beautiful hiking tours and a hub for shipping on Lake Starnberg. The electric ship BERG departs daily from Tutzing on three southern round trips.
The Buchheim Museum, which is well worth a visit
From the pier, a picturesque walk through the idyllic Bavarian village of Bernried leads directly to the Buchheim Museum. There you can admire Lothar-Günther Buchheim's famous collection of Expressionist masterpieces. Tip: Take advantage of the inexpensive “MuseumSchiff” combination ticket: travel by boat + admission to the museum – ideal for a relaxing and culturally enriching excursion.
Seeshaupt - in the far south
The idyllic town of Seeshaupt has retained its charm over the centuries. Why not enjoy this beautiful place with a short walk.
