Starnberg

The best place to start a lake tour (large or northern tour) is in Starnberg, which is easily accessible from Munich by S-Bahn and is located at the northern end of the lake.

Berg

King Ludwig II spent the last days of his life at Berg Castle before he was found dead in Lake Starnberg. The votive chapel there commemorates the fairy-tale king (approx. 1.2 km from the landing stage).

Leoni

Leoni is located on the eastern shore of Lake Starnberg. The landing stage is a good 1.1 km from the votive chapel, roughly halfway to the Berg landing stage.

Possenhofen

Located on the western shore. The landing stage is in the immediate vicinity of Possenhofen Castle, where Empress Elisabeth of Austria (“Sisi”) spent her childhood. The castle is not open to visitors. Starting point for an excursion to Roseninsel (the only island in Lake Starnberg), approx. 2 km away.

Tutzing

Tutzing is the starting point for the southern tour, but the grand tour can also be taken from here.

Bernried

In 1983, Bernried was named “Bavaria's most beautiful village” and has retained its charm to this day. Admire the historic village center with its old wooden houses. A beautiful 1 km long path leads from the landing stage to the “Museum of Imagination.” It displays the remarkable Expressionist collection of Lothar-Günther Buchheim (“Das Boot”). The train station is about 1.5 km from the landing stage.

Located at the southern end of the lake.
